ABSTRACT

Data has shown the Electron Capture Detector (ECD) is prone to give false positive results, and in complex matrices, false negative results due to over-dilutions. GCMSMS can achieve the sensitivity of an ECD but with much better discrimination. This test method is intended to supplement, or replace, EPA methods 608 and 8082. The EPA methods are subject to interference in complex matrices and require extensive sample cleanup. A two-column confirmation must be performed on all detects using GC-ECD. This test method uses GCMSMS, a technique that minimizes sample cleanup and eliminates the need for a two-column confirmation.
