ABSTRACT

Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum pesticide that along with its metablolite, aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA), has been shown to be environmentally persistent. Because of the common and frequent use of glyphosate, as well as widespread public interest, quick and sensitive methods for determining the levels of glyphosate, AMPA, and other polar pesticides in water is of current importance. A fast and reliable method for determining several polar pesticides in drinking water was developed using triple quadrupole LC/MS technology. Simplicity in the method was achieved by using direct sample injection, which eliminated the need for time consuming sample preparation and derivatization of these polar pesticides and their metabolites. Quantitation limits for this method were well below the regulatory guidelines, and excellent method precision was observed with %RSD less than 20% for all compounds at the LOQ.
