ABSTRACT

The analysis of environmental samples by optical emission spectroscopy has become routine for many laboratories. However the approaches to obtaining quality data can vary widely and many interference pitfalls are commonly overlooked. Modern optical emission instrumentation can provide many useful tools in dealing with these interferences. These tools have made the ability to obtain accurate data much easier given the analyst has the correct training to use these tools. Examples and the proper use of such tools will be discussed.
