ABSTRACT

Under a program organized and supported by the Independent Laboratory Institute (ILI), a broad coalition representing government, the commercial analytical laboratory community, the technology innovation community and academia worked together to develop a generic protocol for the use of Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) as a technique for concentrating chemical contaminants in aqueous samples for organic chemical analysis.
In this paper, the authors will discuss the approach that was adopted to the development of a generic SPE protocol, the reasons and rationale behind the approach, review the draft protocol, and present the results of a methodology suitability demonstration study. The design and rationale for the performance validation study are the subject of another paper being presented at this year's NEMC. The study organizers wish to acknowledge the participants of the study who volunteered their laboratories, products, and time to complete the study, without these participants the study would not be possible.
